When I met Greg socially, I had no idea I would become one of his clients. Background checks seemed to be something required for bank tellers and legal aids. I couldn’t imagine how I could use your services in my concrete products business. When I added a new position and immediately experienced problems with turn-over, I decided to begin screening applicants before hiring them. My favorite PSI story goes something like this… I interviewed an applicant who was up-front that his previous decisions weren’t always good ones; however, I knew his mother and he seemed like a hard worker who deserved a second chance.
When the background check came in, I was at a conference in Indianapolis. I read it on my blackberry and I continued to scroll and scroll and scroll. This guy had a rap sheet that you wouldn’t believe and a history I would never want around my family. Today, I screen all new hires; it takes the guess work out of hiring new employees. They may not work out in the end, but at least I know they don’t have a “history.” I recommend PSI to all of my colleagues and associates as soon as we begin sharing employee horror stories.
